Guilty Pleasures

By

Vivian Delaney leads a life of privilege, but behind closed doors she feels isolated and trapped in a gilded cage. Unable to achieve sexual pleasure with her husband, she finds herself in the capable hands of Anton, a massage therapist intent on awakening her to her full sexual potential. By any means necessary. As their secret meetings progress, she falls farther down a rabbit hole where the line between rape and illicit affair grows increasingly blurred. Anton will accept nothing short of her complete surrender as he molds and shapes her to be sold to the highest bidder. DISCLAIMER: This is a work of fiction, and the author does not endorse or condone any behavior done to another human being without their consent. Further, this book contains no use of condoms or talk of STDs. It is fantasy, not reality and should not be read in any way as resembling reality. Warning: This book contains sexual situations of dubious consent, coercion, sexual blackmail, kidnapping, multiple partners, master/slave, girl on girl, humiliation, boot worship, oral play, and anal play.

Factors that influence risk behavior in HIV infected women receiving antiretroviral therapy in Kampala and Masaka, Uganda.

This study sought to use social-structural variables in exploring women's HIV-related risk behaviors in a sub-Saharan Africa setting, Uganda, in East Africa. Although much is known about structural and environmental approaches to HIV prevention among HIV negative women, little is known about the potential application of this approach to studying sexual risk behaviors and adherence to ART among HIV infected women. The overall aim of the study was to examine associations between social-structural variables (e.g, poverty, gender power dynamics) and two outcome variables: history of unprotected sex and self-reported adherence to ART among HIV infected women enrolled in drug therapy programs.;Data were collected using structured interviews with 377 HIV infected women in four different HIV/AIDS treatment programs in Kampala and Masaka, Uganda. A major finding of the study was that few women in the sample were sexually active (34%), partly due to the high proportion of non-sexually active widows (49%). The majority of sexually active women reported condom use at last sex act (75%) and disclosure of their HIV status to a main partner (78%).;In multivariate analysis condom use at last sex act was strongly predicted by the need to borrow food to survive (OR=5.440, 95% CI 1.237, 23.923, p<.05), possibly indicating that women engaging in sexual exchange for food are more likely to use condoms. Forced, coercive or survival sex was significantly associated with the number of meals missed per week due to lack of food (OR=1.130, 95% CI 1.125, 1.526, p<.005). In addition, married women compared to unmarried women were three times more likely to have experienced forced, coercive or survival sex (OR=2.911, 95% CI 1.234, 6.87, p<.05).;Because married women are considered to be relatively more economically stable, the findings that missing meals due to lack of food and married marital status are both associated with forced, coercive or survival sex, when adjusted for other

At thirty-nine, movie critic Mary Pols knew she wanted to have a baby. But nevernot in a million yearson her own. To take on the physical, emotional, and financial challenges of motherhood without a perfect soul mate/husband would be absurd, kind of like not bothering to use a condom during a one-night stand with an adorable but jobless guy ten years her junior. Pols spends the ensuing weeks despairing over everything, from the financial nightmare of single motherhood to the end of her hopes for a traditional life. Not the least of her worries is finding the right way to drop the bombshell on loved ones, including her five siblings and eighty-four-year-old father, who has a German temper and an Irish Catholic attitude toward babies out of wedlock. Yet faced with the frightening, lonely truth that this might be her only chance at motherhood, she plunges ahead with the pregnancy and an Odd Couple version of a co-parenting relationship that looks like one more disaster in a long line of romantic disappointments. But even as she tries to give her sons young father a radical makeover, she realizes that his devotion and love for their child matters more than his spotty resume or his inability to remember to put oil in the car. With humor, insight, and compelling honesty, Pols reveals what it means to compromise in the name of love and to find joy in an accidental life, suddenly brimming with purpose.

Constructions Of Disease

HIV/AIDS has become a global pandemic affecting ever facet of humanity. Without adequate access to prevention methods, education, screening and care the devastating impact of AIDS will continue to destroy economic and social structures across the developing world. Thailand, due to its aggressive prevention strategies, including the 100 percent condom use programme has employed traditional public health models of ring surveillance and disease containment in high-risk populations namely commercial sex workers and IUDs to curb infection rates. However, due to the overwhelming focus on HIV/AIDS and commercial sex industry the new wave of infection among youth has not be addressed fully and its impacts are now being felt in Thai society. Without an immediate response, the future health and productivity of Thai youth could be severely compromised. This study examines through the process of key informant interviews, focus groups, participant observations and content/discourse media analysis the question of HIV/AIDS media health campaigns for youth in Thailand. The study sought to address issues of youth perception, risk factors, communication styles, and impacts on Thai society. Through this multiperspectival analysis including theoretical and methodological frameworks from three schools of thought Comparative Education, Public Health Communications and Cultural Studies, the study seeks to first chronicle and analyze the impact of HIV/AIDS in Thailand and the types of health campaigns that have been done previously in regards to efficacy. Then based on collected qualitative data, the study shifts toward finding possible recommendations of what type of HIV/AIDS media health campaign would be the most successful in preventing HIV/AIDS infection among Thai youth.

Brock Downsized - the story When the prostheses and condom manufacturing factory where Bill Brock has been Communications Manager goes belly-up Brock finds himself out on the street. In this comic but ultimately serious novel, Brock is obliged to take up the somewhat undignified role of wedding videogra pher. At the same time he is suddenly faced with a series of mid-life setbacks. His prostate goes floppy down, and the jolly, high-spirited doctors pre scribe every type of wrong medication, while at the same time the nutty sexy wife of his nutty psychiatrist tries to seduce him, his aged father is dying in a nursing home, his nextdoor neigh bor draws him unwittingly into a kiddyporn ring, and his artist son is implicated as a terrorist storing fertilizer and metal bomb parts in the family's backyard, while his daughter's infatuation with a married man is about to drive him crazy. After all this, and quite a bit more, Brock finds himself, one could say, a bit discomfitted. Brock's spirit is indomitable, however, as he flounders about attempting to gain control over his life. The humor is laugh-out-loud comical, and yet the book has moments that are often deeply moving, while eschewing false sentimentality.

Save Assange in Sweden: The Police Investigation (Volume 1)

Assange in Sweden: The Police Investigation (Volume 1)

These are the transcripts of the police interrogations in the case of Julian Assange, which was opened by Anna Ardin and Sofia Wil n on Friday 20 August 2010 in Stockholm, Sweden; along with lab results for two condoms said to have been used during the sexual encounters. The documents in this book form part of the formal submission to the UK courts. The work with the translation began as soon as the existence and location of the documents became known. The last of the translations went online five days after the discovery. The translations represent well over 30,000 words, and include the interrogations of Anna Ardin, Julian Assange, Sofia Wil n, and nine witnesses, two of whom were acquainted with Julian Assange. Clearly these documents are of central and crucial relevance to one of the most important legal cases of our times. In addition, the lab report for the two condoms shows that when the Swedish state lab SKL tested Anna Ardin s condom for chromosomal DNA, strikingly, they found none. As chromosomal DNA from both parties inundates condoms during intercourse, the lab result indicates that this condom, although presented as evidence, was never actually used a matter the Swedish media have kept hidden from their readers for all these years. As Swedish is not a language that is commonly known in most of the world, it provides a formidable barrier to transparency. We have made the translations of these documents available, so that all may understand the evidence in this case. A final note: proceeds from the sales of this book will be donated to the Julian Assange Defence Fund. www. assangeinsweden.com Twitter: @AssangeInSweden

Online Applied Cost-Benefit Analysis

Applied Cost-Benefit Analysis

`The author succeeds in bringing together many interesting real-life applications of CBA in various areas (including among others health, environment and transportation). The examples are well chosen to illustrate the basic issues and show clearly the crucial importance of theoretical and methodological assumptions. Moreover, they are presented in an accessible and attractive way. For those who know already the principles of CBA, these applications are stimulating and enjoyable reading.'. - Erik Schokkaert, Tijdschrift voor Economie en Management. This fully updated new edition continues in the vein of its predecessor by viewing cost-benefit analysis as applied welfare economics, while at the same time building on the earlier framework by extending the theory and providing further applications in each chapter. New for this edition are analyses of theory related applications in mental health, condom social marketing programs, female primary education as a means of preventing HIV/AIDS and the pricing of natural gas. Presented in an integrated manner, the theoretical concepts are constructed around the main building blocks of CBA, such as shadow pricing, distribution weights, the social discount rate and the marginal cost of public funds. This edition will cement the book's place as a major and accessible text in the field and will be of great interest to graduate and undergraduate students of welfare economics and microeconomic theory, as well as government economists involved with any area of public policy.

Order AIDS, Sex, and Culture: Global Politics and Survival in Southern Africa

AIDS, Sex, and Culture: Global Politics and Survival in Southern Africa

AIDS, Sex, and Culture is a revealing examination of the impact the AIDS epidemic in Africa has had on women. Moving from her own story growing up in South Africa, anthropologist Ida Susser, looks at the AIDS epidemic in Africa in terms of its impact on a particularly vulnerable-both biologically and socially-group: women. She touches on global inequalities underpinning the AIDS epidemic, the impact of social conservativism in the US that has caused a reduction in support of certain AIDS prevention programs in favor of abstinence instruction, the logic of Mbeki's AIDS denial, recurrent stereotypes of the "Dark Continent" and women's fights for access to the female condom. She brings together broad discussions of global conditions and political and economic shifts with discussion of the experiences of women on the ground in areas ranging from Durban in KwaZulu Natal to rural settlements in Namibia and Botswana. Although Susser discusses the historical, social, and cultural context and the affects of HIV/AIDS and globalization, her focus throughout is on the lives of individuals. The book includes a chapter written by Sibongile Mkhize at the University of KwaZulu Natal who tells the story of her own family's struggle with AIDS. Ultimately, Susser argues that, despite the high rates of HIV/AIDS in southern Africa and the widespread problems poor women confront, we can identify what she terms "spaces of hope"-that is, venues in which women are making positive changes to improve their situations. We can, as well, locate community and international movements working successfully toward the prevention and treatment of HIV/AIDS.

AIDS in Asia: The Challenge Continues

By

AIDS poses an unprecedented health and developmental threat the world over including Asia. Ever since it emerged in the early 1980s, it has been spreading rapidly across continents and devastating millions of lives. In the process it has stretched the health-care systems and wrecked the economies and social fabric of many societies. Developing countries, including those in Asia-which has the second highest number of people living with HIV/AIDS-are the most seriously affected. In Asian countries, the problem is compounded by the lack of awareness, poverty, and inadequate funds and infrastructure. This important and comprehensive volume focuses on the epidemiological and programmatic aspects of the HIV/AIDS epidemic in Asia. The contributors discuss the dynamics and determinants of HIV and cover a wide range of pertinent topics related to prevention, care and treatment. These include:- The health, economic, socio-cultural and security dimensions of HIV/AIDS- Success stories in HIV prevention and care including 100% condom programme- Antiretroviral treatment and the "3 by 5" initiative- Management of HIV and sexually-transmitted infections- Drug-related HIV- HIV vaccine development- The role of NGOs- Country-specific HIV reports The contributors highlight the lessons learned in Asia in responding to the challenge posed by HIV and the success achieved by many countries. In addition to HIV prevention, facilitating access to care-including antiretroviral treatment-despite the many problems is now a matter of crucial importance. Scaling up of innovative approaches proven effective elsewhere is also a matter of great urgency. This volume will be invaluable for all those engaged in combating HIV throughout the world. In particular, it will be of immense use to all those involved in HIV/AIDS control programmes, public health professionals, health care workers, policy makers, health administrators, as also international agencies and NGOs and community-based organizations.

Discounted WHO Expert Committee on Specifications for Pharmaceutical Preparations

WHO Expert Committee on Specifications for Pharmaceutical Preparations

By

The Expert Committee on Specifications for Pharmaceutical Preparations works towards clear, independent and practical standards and guidelines for medicines' quality assurance. Standards are developed by the Committee through worldwide consultation and an international consensus building process. The forty-second meeting adopted 11 new monographs for inclusion in The International Pharmacopoeia (Ph. Int.) and seven related new International Chemical Reference Standards (ICRS). The specifications currently developed are internationally applicable test methodologies for antimalarial, antituberculosis, antiretroviral and specifically also medicines for children. The main principles for selection of INNs for biologicals were endorsed. In order to serve the WHO-managed Prequalification Programme, two new procedures were adopted, namely on prequalification of intrauterine devices (IUDs) and of male latex condoms, together with a new guidance on the assessment of active pharmaceutical ingredients for use in medicines. The international guidelines, specifications and nomenclature developed under the aegis of the Expert Committee on Specifications for Pharmaceutical Preparations serve all Member States, international organizations, United Nations agencies, regional and interregional harmonization efforts, and underpin important initiatives, including the prequalification of medicines, the Roll Back Malaria Programme, Stop TB, essential medicines and medicines for children. The advice and recommendations provided by this Expert Committee are intended to help national and regional authorities (in particular DRAs), procurement agencies, as well as major international bodies and institutions, such as the Global Fund to Fight AIDS, Tuberculosis and Malaria, and international organizations such as the United Nations Children's Fund (UNICEF) to combat problems of counterfeit and substandard medicines and to fill the gap for medicines used in the treatment of large populations, for which no international quality requirements are publicly available. WHO through this Expert Committee and with the help of many Member States' direct and indirect contributions, develops independent international standards through worldwide consultation and an international consensus building process. These are free for use and are developed by WHO with no commercial interest. Special efforts are made to keep their implementation costs low, but without compromising the quality, for example by reducing the number of physical reference standards needed for a Ph. Int. monograph to a minimum. Topics featured in the book include: how to solve health problems; ways to stay healthy; understanding the reproductive parts of women's bodies; sexual health; HIV/AIDS and other sexually transmitted diseases; pregnancy, birth and breast feeding; mental health; health concerns of women with disabilities, girls, older women and refugees; the politics of women's health; rape and other violence against women; and the use of medicines in women's health.

Weeping Willow: Volume Two: A Friend in Deed

Weeping Willow Volume Two: A Friend in Deed is the continuation of the comic tale of Lee Harris, a staid accountant with a beige life who, in Volume One, discovered his wife had fallen for another man, skipped town and got stranded in the odd village of River Bend where he was forced to work in a questionable diner for room and board and fell in with the local community theatre, something he would never have thought of doing if he'd been left to his own devices. In Volume Two, Lee finally starts getting some control over his life. He finds a place to live, starts dating in earnest and actually begins looking for a job in his own field. He also eschews run-on sentences. All seems well, until he injures his coccyx in a freak accident. Follow Lee Harris and his odd group of new friends as they desperately try to make sense of a life that seems perversely committed to thwarting their efforts. You'll also follow the "writers", Geoff (the man with the world's largest head) and Steve (who thinks Othello is a board game), who banter, argue and comment throughout the narrative in what has been described as annoyingly charming. Weeping Willow has been called brilliant, down-to-earth, addictive, gently subversive, inherently strange, scathing and hip. It combines a love of tools, the best chili on Earth, a ghost or two, several autographed photos of Danny Bonaduce, gourmet hors d'oeuvres, several mentions of ermines, stoats and yaks, a condom emporium and fireworks into a twisted tale of survival.
